Personalised Plans and Alternative Provisions

Wow, what a 2 weeks this has been! I have done so much and yet there is still so much to do. Over the last 2 weeks I have been supporting a school in the North of the county (Hampshire) Its been a long journey every day but worth it to support the school on their new journey with their new Headteacher. I have worked with the staff in the school, to open up two support provisions. Paul Dix will be happy, there are no 'Inclusion Booth's' #losethebooths, we have created a learning zone where students are supported in their learning, throughout the day, have a break outside of the room and they are able to socialise with each other at lunch and break time. This room is also used to support students in lessons where things may not be going right. It gives the student some space whilst the situation is resolved or time to be able to have restorative conversations with the teacher. The next step will to be to build in some reflective work into their day. The second space is Reset. This is a space where studnets can go to regulate and then return back to their lesson. The Pastoral Support Officer is there to assist in this regulation and support communication with the class teacher, tutor or year leader. The staff have been amazing and have created wonderful spaces in such a short period of time.

I have been getting to know the pupils and working with staff on supporting the students who are finding coming to school and staying in school challenging. My phone has been in near constant use during 2 days of the second week whilst I developed a bank of local provisions, arranging meetings and visits, to be able to ensure students are feeling successful. Putting them on a path to develop interests and their self esteem. I am particularly excited about a meeting with Hampshire Outdoors to develop an onsite forest school! I am always on the look out for charities and provisions that offer support to young people and would love to speak to anyone that has a company that supports young people in any field.

Moving onto this week, after a productive Bank Holiday weekend of organising, cleaning, socialising and relaxing, I will be working with staff to develop the processes we have already started, and develop whole school tracking documents so we can track the amazing progress the students are going to be making over the rest of this term.
